Award-Winning Allbright Smith Residence Featured in Upstate House Magazine

The Allbright Smith Residence in Gardiner, New York, which received an award for excellence in design from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in November of 2004, is to be featured in the July issue of Upstate House Magazine. The article, entitled "Greener Acres", focuses on the home as an example of sustainable design that reflects the region's character.

The Allbright Smith Residence, designed by New Paltz-based architect, Matthew Bialecki, AIA, of Bialecki Architects, is sited on the edge of large meadow and frames a panoramic view of the nearby Shawangunk Ridge.

Upstate House magazine is published by Luminary Publishing, Inc., which also publishes Chronogram magazine and Metro House magazine. All three magazines are free, monthly publications. Chronogram is a Mid-Hudson magazine of events and ideas dedicated to nourishing and supporting the creative and cultural life of the Hudson Valley, while Upstate House and Metro House serve homebuyers and homeowners. Metro House focuses on the metropolitan region of New York City, primarily Westchester and Rockland, New York; Fairfield County, Connecticut; and Bergen County, New Jersey, while Upstate House covers the Hudson Valley region of New York.

Matthew Bialecki has previously been recognized by the AIA for his designs of the Studley Residence, Gardiner, Rock and Snow, New Paltz, and 108 Fifth Avenue, a New York City apartment. In 2001 he received the President's Award from the New York State Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for outstanding service to the field of architecture.

His work has been featured in Architectural Digest (1996, 1999 and 2000) and in other national publications such as Period Homes and Progressive Architecture. He is a contributing author and editor of The New Bungalow published by Gibbs-Smith Publishers in 2001.
